GREENLEE COUNTY — Don't let the heat get you down — there's plenty to do in Greenlee County this summer to make the most of vacation days.

Want to stay out of the sun? Go to the Clifton Gym and enjoy free programming and services. Children who can't make it up the hill to the Morenci Community Center can swing by in Clifton and enjoy sports such as basketball, dodgeball, volleyball, pickleball and more.

There's even ping pong and a plethora of board games to enjoy.

The Clifton Gym is open Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m to 3 p.m.; from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday; and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every other Saturday. For more information call the Recreation Department at 928-865-7475.

For ages 14 and up (including adults), the Duncan Library is hosting an Introduction to Rock-Hounding class June 14, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The library invites participants to come and learn about local rocks and minerals by registering in person at the library or calling 928-359-2094.

The Duncan Library will also be hosting a Photography Phun Camp starting Wednesdays in July, courtesy of the Greenlee County Cooperative Extension.

“Each Wednesday in July, join us in the Duncan Library to explore a different aspect of photography,” extension officials wrote.

Finally, the Morenci Theater is offering free movies for children of all ages every Tuesday until Aug. 6, with show times at 9 a.m, 11:20 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. The remaining movies for June are “Smallfoot” on June 18 and “Goosebumps 2” on June 25. Movie seating will be first come, first served.

Residents can also relax and have a barbecue at any of the local park facilities, or cool down at the Clifton Splash Pad. For more information about amenities or to reserve parks for functions call 928-865-4146 for the town of Clifton, and 928-359-2791 for Duncan.
