SAFFORD — Community members and leaders got to see a leading Gila Valley business in operation from the inside Wednesday.
DRG Technologies, maker of label and tag components for many Fortune 500 companies, invited the community to a Wednesday open house, offering employee-led tours of the facility that highlighted its continued upgrades and improvements. Lunch was also served.
Before introducing the tour guides, each of whom works in one of DRG’s departments and led a small group through the expansive facility, Executive Vice President/General Manager Tim Taylor said the occasion and the upgrades were about the employees.
Those upgrades include the implementation of 5S, a method to better organize workplaces for efficiency. Taylor said this was a step toward lean manufacturing, a system that minimizes waste without sacrificing productivity. He added that 5S had five elements; sort, set in order, shine, standardize and sustain.
Visitors were then conducted through DRG’s different departments, where they got to see some of the company’s finished product, had a firsthand look at the machines and processes that created those products and had their questions answered by the guides.
