With nine bands and 38 competing skateboarders from around Arizona, multiple food and merchandise vendors and a parking lot full of Graham and Greenlee County locals, Jared Rios, owner of Cheecharrone SK8 Shop in Safford and the organizer of the Madbowl Bash skateboarding competition said he thought that the first of what he hopes to be an annual competition and celebration of skate culture in Thatcher was a success.

Held at the Thatcher Shake Park on Saturday, Rios said he was happy to see a diverse array of people from all age ranges from the Gila Valley, San Carlos, Greenlee County and people from Tucson, Phoenix and Bisbee come out to the event and show that skateboarding and skate culture is both fun and a growing community in the Gila Valley.

"We're not just a bunch of hoodlums tearing up stuff," Rios said, "We're athletes in our own right."
