PIMA — Family, friends and teachers filled the bleachers at Edd Hubbard Football Field on Wednesday night as Pima High School’s class of 2019 celebrated the end of their journey through high school and the start of a new chapter in their lives.
Under the lights, the 63 graduating seniors in Pima’s class of 2019 came forward to receive their diplomas from school board members.
After the processional and national anthem, senior Sarah Bailey gave the welcome address. Then Raely Brown and Danika Derrick stepped onstage to revisit the class of 2019’s history and shared experiences, and Connor Hansen and Samantha McMahan gave a special musical number, performing “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac.
“Confucius once said our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall,” class valedictorian Alani Blair said in her speech. “As a class, we have been blessed to go through our high school years together, laugh together, learn together, succeed together, make memories together, fall together and, most importantly, rise together.
“After countless days of hard work, rising every time we have fallen, our efforts have brought us to right now. We are now finishing one chapter in our lives and will all soon begin our next. Although starting a new chapter is always nerve-wracking, we can remember that starting high school was scary, but here we are.”
