SAFFORD — In a move to encourage new home construction, the City of Safford is offering waivers and compensation on some fees over the next year.
Under a resolution adopted by the Safford City Council, fees for new home construction building permits will be eligible for waiver, and water capacity fees and water meter fees will be reimbursed to homebuyers from July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020.
To qualify for these waivers, work authorized by a building permit must begin within 90 days after the permit is issued. Required inspections will take place before the end of the 90-day period, and the permit will be revoked if work has not begun or has been suspended for more than 90 days.
The home must be built within the city or newly annexed areas, and finished within a year of the building permit’s issuance. Public infrastructure servicing the new home must either be in place or be built along with the home.
