Eastern Arizona Museum curator and local historian Edres Barney, who grew up in Pima and was a longtime Safford resident, has always been interested in the history of the place and its people.
“The more I read about the history of the area, the more I was intrigued by what the pioneers made of the area with so little,” Barney said. She has written numerous articles about those pioneers. Barney also recalled a time when Pima had three grocery stores and residents could buy almost anything they needed in town.
Returning to PIma in 1994 after retirement, Barney was asked by Eastern Arizona Museum personnel if she would like to get involved. She was happy to do so, and has been with the museum ever since.
