PIMA — On March 8, Pima volleyball player Danika Derrick signed to play for South Mountain Community College.
Pima volleyball head coach Keoni Bailado said, “We’re super proud of how hard Dani has worked since we’ve been around her and volleyball. She’s always engaged and wanting to learn and do more. We’re glad she made the decision to pursue continuing her volleyball career at the collegiate level. We can’t wait to see what she’s able to bring to her new team on and off the court. We wish her the best of luck next season.”
Raime Ramsey Derrick, Danika’s mother said, “Danika is a very ambitious, headstrong, talented and hardworking individual in anything she enjoys. She has proven this in academics with a 4.0 average and any athletic sports she enjoys. She has enjoyed volleyball ever since she was young, playing in club, going to camps and playing school. It was a goal of hers to play for a college some day. Well, needless to say, through all the hard work, drive and efforts she has achieved and accomplished this. I am very proud of my daughter and her accomplishments throughout the years. I am very excited to continue watching and being her number one fan while she plays for South Mountain Community College.”
Danika said, “I’m really grateful to be playing college volleyball. I’m so excited. They asked me to come visit, so we went on a tour, I got to practice with them in the open gym and I loved it. It felt like it was right for me. I’m looking forward to becoming close with all the girls, playing at their level and getting better.”
