The Lady Bulldogs volleyball team claimed a three-game sweep of Region 3A South rival Catalina Lady Trojans, 25-8, 25-9 and 25-22 Monday.

It was the second meeting of the two teams and the second time the Lady Bulldogs have picked up the three-game victory over Catalina. Safford is now a perfect 3-0 in region play, 3-2 in 3A and 4-2 overall.

Early in the first game it seemed Catalina was going to give a SHS battle, but after they tied 3-3, the Lady Bulldogs began to steadily pull away. At 7-5, the Lady Bulldogs put up eight unanswered points before Catalina managed two-points, 15-7.

Safford put together the run to 25 points as Catalina could only manage one more score, 25-8.

In Game Two, Catalina kept it close early on, trailing by only two-points, 6-4. SHS bolted ahead to 14-4 before the Lady Trojans could stop the score spurt at 14-5. Down the stretch Catalina could only add four more points as the Lady Bulldogs put up 11-points to reach the magic 25, 25-9.

The final game was a much closer affair with the Lady Trojans tying the score at 17 each, with many younger SHS players on the court.

Safford pulled away to 21-17, but Catalina got as close as 24-22 before SHS finally put the game away.
