Thatcher basketball ready for playoffs

Thatcher moves on to face Gilbert Christian on the road on Saturday.

The girls basketball team hosted Show Low on Friday in the first round of the playoffs, after the paper went to press.

“We have been emphasizing scenarios at practice, I have failed in the past to have my team fully prepared for different uncommon situations and so I am trying to get them ready for some of those,” Thatcher coach Dennis Griffin said. “Also, I am emphasizing the fact that this is a game that they should enjoy just competing.”

Heading into this match, Thatcher is 20-5 and first in the 3A rankings.

“I want them to have fun and not worry so much,” Griffin said. “They are amazing girls and a lot of fun to be around, and so no matter what happens, they will still be amazing and a lot of fun.”

The winner faces the winner of the Window Rock vs Bourgade Catholic game on February 21 at the Findlay Toyota Center.
